Fortune 500 2011 List

 

Cliffs has been added to the Fortune 500 list 2011, FortuneMagazine's annual ranking of America's largest companies by revenue. Cliffs is ranked at No. 477, with annual revenues of $4.7 billion for 2010, having risen almost 275 place from 2010's ranking on #750

Barron's 500 America's Top Companies for 2011

 

Cliffs has been added to the Barron’s 500 America’s Top Companies list for 2011.  The Barron’s 500 ranks the U.S. and Canada’s largest publicly-traded companies by sales growth in the latest fiscal year. Cliffs debuted on the list at #7, the only mining and natural resources company in the top ten. Cliffs was also profiled in the accompanying article as one of the newcomers on the list.

Cliffs received the Mincom 2010 Innovation and Excellence in Asset Management (IEAM) Vision Award. Global 1000 Sustainable Performance Leaders Ranking

 

Cliffs was named to the Global 1000 Sustainable Performance Leaders, achieving an overall ranking of 97 among other publicly traded global companies. In addition, it ranked fourth among the 64 companies recognized in the Metals and Mining category.

Cliffs was named to the Maplecroft Climate Innovation Indexes (CII) as a Maplecroft CII Benchmark and Maplecroft CII Leader for both 2010 and 2011.

Bloomsberg BusinessWeek Top 50 Best Performers

 

Cliffs ranked ninth on Bloomberg Businessweek's inaugural '50 Top Performers' list, which ranks U.S. corporations with the highest total returns for shareholders in the Standard & Poor's 500 stock index over the past five years.

Golden Gecko Awards for Environmental Excellence

Certificate of Merit

 

Cliffs was awarded a Certificate of Merit at the annual Golden Gecko Awards, coordinated by the Western Australian Department of Mines and Petroleum, which recognizes excellence in environmental performance and environmental leadership in the mining and petroleum industries.  Cliffs was also a finalist in the 2009 Golden Gecko Awards for its work on the Tree-stem Trapdoor Spider, Aganippe castellum.

 

2011 Minnesota “Yellow Ribbon Award”

 

The Yellow Ribbon Company award is one of the highest Minnesota awards presented to employers that go above and beyond the legal requirements in their support of service members and military families. The program is designed to support employees and their families during all deployment phases of their military service with the Reserves or the National Guard.  Cliffs is among 19 companies in Minnesota to receive this recognition since the award was created in 2009.

 

Certificate of Achievement in Safety

 

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Mine Safety and Health Administration has awarded Cliffs Logan County Coal’s Elklick Tipple with the Certificate of Achievement in Safety as part of its Sentinels of Safety award program. Certificates of Achievement in Safety are awarded to operations that have met all of the award criteria, including: no days of restricted work activity, no lost days due to injury and no accidents resulting in permanent disabilities or fatalities during 2010.

Mountaineer Guardian Award

 

Pinnacle Mining was recognized for safety and environmental achievements during the West Virginia Coal Association’s Annual Symposium in Charleston. The Pinnacle Preparation Plant was awarded a Mountaineer Guardian Award by the West Virginia Office of Miners’ Health, Safety & Training for zero lost time accidents during 2011 and more than 600 days without a lost time accident.

Sentinels of Safety Award

 

Our Empire Mine in Michigan received its first Sentinels of Safety Certificate of Achievement in Safety in the “Large Metal Nonmetal Mill Group” for the 2010 statistical period.  The Empire processing plant qualified for the award by working 816,033 employee hours in 2010 without experiencing a work injury that resulted in a fatality, permanent disability, days away from work, or days of restricted work activity.
